Voluntary Commitments

We voluntarily adhered to initiatives aligned with sustainable development, promotion of human rights and social and environmental responsibility. Among our voluntary commitments undertaken or ratified are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Global Compact, the Gender and Race Pro-Equity Program, the Women's Empowerment Principles and the Declaration of Corporate Commitment to Confront Sexual Violence Against Children and Adolescents.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

We have our corporate guidelines aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs guide the Social Responsibility Policy of the Eletrobras Companies and are used as criteria for selecting the social projects that receive our support.

The negotiations that culminated in the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in September of this year during the United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development were concluded in August 2015. Beginning in 2013, following the mandate issued by Rio+20 Conference, the SDGs will guide national policies and international cooperation activities in the coming years and will succeed and update the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Brazil participated in all sessions of intergovernmental negotiation. There are 17 goals and 169 targets which involve diverse themes.

In 2017, Eletrobras developed a series of initiatives in order to integrate the SDGs to its business strategy. Here’s the video that shows how this process happened.

Global Compact

Since July 2006, we are signatories of the Global Compact, which reaffirms our commitment to sustainability and corporate citizenship.

The Global Compact is an initiative developed by the UN to mobilize the business community for the adoption of fundamental and internationally accepted values in its business practices in the areas of human rights, labor relations, the environment and the fight against corruption. This initiative includes the participation of United Nations agencies, companies, unions, non-governmental organizations and other partners needed to build a more inclusive and egalitarian global market.

Based on transparency, the Global Compact is not a regulatory tool. From its ten principles, it offers guidelines that encourage companies to voluntarily develop business practices that promote sustainable development and corporate citizenship.

Gender and Race Pro-Equity Program

We participated in all editions of the Gender and Race Pro-Equity Program, launched in 2005. The purpose of the program is to promote racial and gender equality in the labor market by helping to eliminate all forms of discrimination in employment access, salary, promotion and continuation, as well as to promote human rights.

Women's Empowerment Principles

In order to contribute to the development and empowerment of women, in August 2010, we adhered to the seven Women's Empowerment Principles, thus reinforcing our commitment to gender equality and respect for human rights. The Women's Empowerment Principles are the result of a partnership between UN Women and the UN Global Compact, of which we are signatories.

Corporate Commitment to Confront Sexual Violence Against Children and Adolescents

We adhered in August 2010 to the Declaration of Corporate Commitment to Confront Sexual Violence Against Children and Adolescents with the Secretariat for Human Rights of the Presidency of the Republic.
